Firstly, find whatever position is most comfortable for you, whether that’s sitting on or squatting over the toilet, standing in the shower with a leg raised (the water can act as a helpful lubricant) or even lying down. All our bodies are different, so do what feels most comfortable for you. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable, to allow your muscles to be fully relaxed.

There are a few ways to fold your cup, but we find the most popular is to fold the cup lengthways, in half and in half again, and hold firmly in one hand below the rim.

With the other hand - locate the vagina entrance and guide the bettercup up and slightly backwards towards your tailbone. The cup needs to remain folded until it is fully inserted, then just simply let it pop open to form the seal. Don’t worry if the cup pops open before it’s fully inserted, you’ll still be able to guide it up and into a comfortable position.

To check the cup has opened fully, feel around the base of it with your fingers, it should feel like a full circle with no folds. You can also very gently pull on the stem, if you feel resistance then the seal has formed. If needed, twist the cup around slightly to encourage it to fully open. You want the stem to sit fully inside you but our bodies are all different so if you find the stem sticks out and causes discomfort you can trim it.

Your bettercup should sit as low as is comfortably possible. The bettercup is designed to form a seal with the vaginal walls and not to sit around the cervix.

Your cup should sit just inside the entrance to the vagina, if your cup is sitting too high it can cause leaking.
